In the world of social media, Instagram has taken the lead as one of the most popular platforms for users to connect with each other, share content, and build their personal brands. However, many users often get confused between the terms “Profile Name” and “Username” on Instagram. This can lead to some confusion for new users and may also result in some unintended consequences if not used correctly.
So, in this article, I'll explain the difference between Profile Name and Username on Instagram and how to use them correctly.
To begin with, let's define the two terms: Profile Name and Username. The Profile Name on Instagram is the name that appears at the top of your profile and is typically your real name or the name of your business.
This name can be changed at any time and is not unique to your account. On the other hand, the Username is the unique name that identifies your account and appears in your Instagram URL (@username). This name is also used in your Instagram handle (@username) and is what people use to search for and tag you on the platform.
In my recent YouTube video, I explain that the username is the most important part of your Instagram profile. This is because it is what people will use to find you on the platform, and it is also what appears in your Instagram handle.
This means that you should choose a username that is both memorable and reflective of your brand or personality. I also suggests using a consistent username across all your social media platforms if possible to make it easy for people to find you.
Your Profile Name, on the other hand, is not as critical as your username, but it still plays an essential role in your Instagram profile. This is because it helps people identify you and remember who you are.
For businesses, the Profile Name should be the name of your brand, and for individuals, it should be your real name or a name that you are commonly known by.
In addition to these differences, there are also some rules that you should keep in mind when choosing your Profile Name and Username on Instagram. Firstly, your Username cannot contain spaces or special characters, and it must be between 1-30 characters long. Your Profile Name, on the other hand, can be up to 150 characters long and can contain spaces and special characters.
While you can change both your Profile Name and Username its not ideal as it can lead to confusion amongst your followers
In conclusion, understanding the difference between Profile Name and Username on Instagram is essential for creating an effective profile. Your username is the most important part of your profile and should be chosen carefully to reflect your brand or personality.
Your Profile Name is also crucial and should be chosen to help people identify you and remember who you are. By following these guidelines, you can create a successful Instagram profile and build your personal brand on this popular social media platform
