Die siebenjährige Wen und ihre Adoptivväter Andrew und Eric machen Urlaub in einer einsamen Waldhütte, als sie von vier Unbekannten überfallen werden. Leonard und seine Begleiter sind gekommen, um einen wichtigen Job zu erledigen: Sie müssen die Apokalypse verhindern.

Unerklärliche Phänomene, beunruhigende Ereignisse und schicksalhafte Entscheidungen haben M. Night Shyamalan („The Sixth Sense“) schon immer fasziniert. Und man ahnt sofort, was ihn an Paul Tremblays Roman „Das Haus am Ende der Welt“ gereizt hat.

„Knock at the Cabin“ ist nach „Old“ (2021) ein weiterer Beleg dafür, dass Shyamalan nach einer längeren Durststrecke (u. a. „After Earth“) zu alter Stärke zurückgefunden hat. Die schnörkellose, mit biblischer Wucht inszenierte Handlung konfrontiert die Zuschauer unweigerlich mit der Frage, was sie in dieser Situation tun würden.
