Real Estate Licensing and examination activity
In March 2020, real estate licensing exam centers were closed to help slow the spread of COVID-19 and keep California safe. And now the Department of Real Estate (DRE) is experiencing longer than normal processing timeframes.
The number of applications for California Real Estate salesperson examinations administered for Fiscal Year 2019/2020 has decreased 18 percent when compared to FY 2018/19, and the number of broker examinations administered also decreased 15 percent during that same period. The issuance of new salesperson licenses has decreased by 26 percent over the last FY, while the issuance of broker licenses decreased by 15 percent.
Keep in mind that most testing sites expect to have a much lower testing capacity in 2020. There are likely to be continued delays for California Real Estate License Exam due to reduced capacity and a backlog caused by exam site closures earlier in the year.
California Real Estate Exam Pass Rate – Is it difficult to pass California real estate exam in 2020?
From FY 2019-20, there were 41,249 exams administered, but only 17,396 people passed the California real estate exam and became a licensed salesperson. That’s around a 42% pass rate for test takers. It was the lowest rate in the last 5 years.
Please note that the Real Estate License may not have been issued in the same month when Examinees passed the exam. In some case, even though Examinees passed the Real Estate exam, they might not have completed the application to receive the license. But this data gives you some idea about how difficult the California Real Estate Exam is to pass. It’s not so easy.
The exam covers three college-level courses. You cannot go into it unprepared! We recommend you take the exam prep course before you sit for the state exam.
